I have two questions about Lackstifts:
1) When did Porsche began officially issuing these through dealers in labelled tubes for commercial sale as an accessory item? I'm sure in 1950 Porsche would give you a vial of touch-up paint but that's not really the same as a boxed commercially available Lackstift.
2) When did Porsche switch from the skinny tube to the thicker tube? See this comparison between the Glacier White tube with a '57 paint code and this Signal Red tube from 1962:

Re: 356 Era Lackstift Touch-up Paint Stick Questions
I remember seeing some info that these were listed as an option on the purchase order sheet or Kardexes... is this correct? Does anyone have any info on these being ordered as an option for a new car?

Re: 356 Era Lackstift Touch-up Paint Stick Questions
I recently came across some(about 5) from an old 356 friend and they were left out and openned in a damp place for over 20yrs. Not pretty looking but I need one in particular:
I need 'Sand Beig'e for my '66 912. I may have a Slate Grey 'stick' to trade or just buy out right the correct stick. Let me know.

Re: 356 Era Lackstift Touch-up Paint Stick Questions
The late Lackstifts came in thin thick paper containers with a die cut window.
For some reason, the new forum will not allow me to post pictures. If someone can post them for me, I will send them to them.

Re: 356 Era Lackstift Touch-up Paint Stick Questions
Roy,
From what I can tell there were two boxes for the thicker tubes. The early thick tubes were in dark blue Dupli-Color branded boxes. The later tubes were put in lighter blue Porsche branded boxes. From what I've seen and discussed with others it seems that the boxes changed some time around 1966 / 1967 so as far as 356's go the early, dark blue box is the correct one for the later thicker tubes. Does any one know when the thicker tubes were introduced?
I've attached some comparison photos of come boxes below:
Early Dark Blue Box
Late Light Blue Box

Re: 356 Era Lackstift Touch-up Paint Stick Questions
ever seen this one for touch up paint? came with the 64 coupe new. The bottle label says west Germany at the top then one ounce under that. At the bottom it says distributor, coast specialties Bronx NY. Now that I think about it, it could be repackaged by coast specialties and the paint was from W Germany.

It does look like the paint was re-bottled. It looks like they used ink jars!
I have seen this plastic bottle from '68 or '69. It looks like the paint was directly ordered from Glasurit as opposed to the 'official' Porsche provided paint.
