Yikes. I looked it up.....$10k to $11k just for the KIT. Then it has to be assembled and installed, car aligned etc, etc. Your looking at more than $15,000 to get that 5th gear.

And if you get the wrong donor transmission fifth gear will be the same ratio as the old forth gear.

There are PLENTY of 914 transmissions that have an exceptionally long 5th gear. You can also reverse the arrangements on some of the gears to get different gear ratios. We have access to a few 901 transmissions and lots of parts.

True, as long as you get the right one.

Hi the incremental cost of the WEVO kit allows the maintenance of the swing axle suspension with the 901 box. A more cost effective option would be to use an 8/31 Ring and Pinion and a better diff such as the the TBS that Vic sells or the Caddrobi conversion. This way you keep the no matching case and a better gear ratio split over the tall 4th. you can build the 901 gearbox WEVO as a 4 spd to avoid the problematic 1st gear pattern. If you want the 901 box go IRS.

I have a 5 speed in my 912 and I like it. Jaimison Creek road, steep and twisty requires a lot of 1-2 shifting in a 356 but goes beautifully with the 912 5 speed.

Having a 5 speed for the last 18yrs in my 356C, I have to say I wouldn’t own a 356 without it. We spend exorbitant amount of money to add performance to our engines which most of the time reduces the life of the engine. With the 5 speed you get extra performance without sacrificing any reliability. You can always go back to the 4 speed for originality, I only see a positive side to a 5 speed. Just my 2 cents.

Yes I have the 901 & 900 suspension in my car with 914 gearing. At the time I did my car the WEVO wasn’t available. When I bought my car it came with a 912 donor car to transfer all the components.
