I agree with the suggestion to NOT STAY IN ALBUQUERQUE. Your U-Haul will be gone in morning.

I would spend $30 and get a Tile tag or Apple Air Tag and duct tape it to the inside of the car as an inexpensive LoJack tracker. You can also set it up to alert you if the car is moved without you. Just peace of mind in case the worst happens or if you end up in Albuquerque.

Clever idea Ted. I think I'll do that.

Get a cheap car cover and glue abrasive strips on the inside. Then don't tie it down too tightly. The flapping will remove most of the rust. Save you some elbow grease down the road.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

We're here to help each other, Dennis. Have a safe and uneventful trip! If you are going through Grants, New Mexico, watch your speed! I got caught in a speed trap there driving my 356 from So-Cal to Fort Carson, Colorado. Abrupt reduction in speed coming into town on a curve.

Do not plan to over-night in Albuquerque at a motel. Crooks are everywhere and your rig will be gone in the morning.

I used to tow my Airstream from MN to Houston TX for work - would leave it there over the winter to spend more time with a major client. If it were me and I was concerned about someone stealing my car, I'd consider a KOA (Kampgrounds of America) - some rent cabins so you'd have to bring some sleeping supplies - they have hot showers and laundry facilities. Not ideal like a motel but with Airstream we had our own food, tv, radio - most comforts of "home." Sounds like an adventure!

I am shocked to hear of the lawlessness in Albuquerque :( I have trailered my racecars and parked the rig on the street overnight or at racetrack motels since 1964 with never a thought of theft. Perhaps it is time to put the Mexican border back down to where it used to be!

Harlan,
You might have been absent from school that day. New Mexico and the land west of the Rio Grande (which starts In Colorado and formed the western and southern boundary of the Republic of Texas) was seized from Mexico as a result of the Texas Revolution and the Mexican War (1846-1848). :D

Careful, Mark. You're getting political.
