Sticking Door Latch
The passenger side door latch on my ‘60B Cab is sticking. It opens fine when the button is out and then pushed in, but the button does not return to the out position without closing the door hard, which I’m reluctant to continue doing. I tried spraying with Kroil and working it a bit to no avail. I then removed the latch to check the internal mechanism, and from what I’ve read and see of its operation, its working fine.
With the handle removed, the button pushes in fine, but it does not return without tapping the end of the short shaft firmly on the bench. Pictures below show both positions.
Can it be freed up without disassembly, and if so,how? I have lubed it thoroughly and let it sit, but no change.
If it does need disassembly and internal work, please let me know what needs to be done!
Thanks!!

Re: Sticking Door Latch
Does the handle have the inner seal? It not only seals but helps guide the tumbler receiver. I'd disassemble the lock, check the seals including the one on the tumbler and lube with white grease. Also make sure the spring isn't cocked and binding the receiver.

If you are uncomfortable with dissemble, spray WD-40 in the barrel, and work back and fourth. ........Jim.

Disassembly is very easy. If you'd like, I can take some pics of the procedure.

Re: Sticking Door Latch
I’m not uncomfortable with disassembly; I just need to understand the process. Are there any good instructions out there on how and what to do and expect?
Thanks!

Re: Sticking Door Latch
Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the E clip from the end of the tumbler receiver and finish removing it with a pair of pliers. The receiver is spring loaded. Remove the receiver and check to see that the spring isn't binding in the handle.
Note the groove in the receiver and the tab in the handle. The receiver can only go in one way. I use white grease to lube the receiver and the inside of the handle.
Note the black seal inside the handle and the grub screw for the tumbler. Since you don't indicate you have an issue with the tumbler, no need to remove it from the receiver. Most likely the grub screw is frozen anyway.
Reinsert the receiver inside the handle replacing the fiber washer and E clip.
Note: the pics are in reverse order.

Re: Sticking Door Latch
For many years that Inner Seal was not available and Porsche Classic in their wisdom was supplying an `O` as a replacement for that seal#2 Post by Mike Wilson » Sun Sep 11, 2022 6:33 pm

It did NOT work, the `O` Ring rolls and jams - it should be a Chevron shaped seal
Check that this is not your problem

Re: Sticking Door Latch
I had the same problem on my 65 coupe a few years ago. No amount of lubrication worked. Turned out the problem was the inner seal. Hard as a rock. I believe I got the replacements from Stoddard. Look at https://www.stoddard.com/nla53160700-64 ... 0-nla.html.

Re: Sticking Door Latch
There was also a run of repro door handles that didn't have the groove for the seal.

Re: Sticking Door Latch
First. Thanks for all the help so far!
Second. Door handle is disassembled (see below). The “plastic/rubber” washer showed its age and split in two. Part on order.
Third. I ran lock receiver in and out a couple of times, and it was still sticking. After examining it carefully, it locked like the “locking piece” was dragging on the side of its tube. I got the key to move it, but it would only go about half way in the key slot. I went to the car and tried on the driver’s door, and it worked smoothly!!
Any thoughts on the next move? Since amazingly the grub screw was loose, I disassembled the lock and removed the tumbler. With a little Kroil the key goes in and out smoothly. And I removed the locking bar. I thought it was the culprit. It wasn’t. The empty lock receiver still hangs up on the sides of its tube in the handle. See pics below. It looks like it’s hanging up on the two small ridges tgat look like they’re in there to keep it all centered. It’s a very tight fit.
Do I now go in and file the ridges down a bit, or use a dremel tool? Any suggestions?
Thanks!!
Wayne
