RHD 356A

#1 Post by Garfield Smith »

My first post, I'm a new member from the UK !

I'm trying to track down the history of RHD 1958 A that was being driven around Warren in Michigan in the late 60's and 1970's. It was blue with a distinctive silver arrow on the bonnet. I understand it was owned, at some point, by a chap called Joe York.

Does anyone on the register recall it ? Perhaps it passed through Neil Goldberg's garage in Troy at some point. Is Neil on the forum ?

I look forward to any information that anyone on the registry might have.

Kind regards,

Garfield

Welcome Garfield,

Unfortunately, I've not seen it before, at least not in the last 25 years of my 356 ownership. Are you the new owner? Any photos you can post of it?

Hello, welcome to this brilliant club.

We can't be of any use in your quest but Mike Smith (PR Services) might be able to give a bit of info, he's been collecting data on RHDs for ages and, much like soooo many Registry people, he knows so much I'm amazed his head hasn't expanded to accomodate it all!

Just in case you haven't picked up on it Brooklands Museum have organised a German Day on Sunday Sept 25th, www.brooklandsmuseum.com/whats-on/german-day, we'll be there come and say hello if you make it.

Welcome aboard, Garfield.

Joe York bought the car in December 23, 1976, and drove it home without the doors attached! He never drove it again.
I bought the car from him August 10, 2011.
Chassis number 102763, original engine 68549, original trans 18198.
Matching doors and lids. Original color was silver, with red interior. If you need other information in my files, contact me directly.

Thank you for all your swift responses. It's a real pleasure to join the club.

Vic, thank you for the additional information and for providing it earlier to Mike Smith at PRS (no relation). I didn't know you were on this forum. I'll be in touch privately for some additional information if you have it. If I haven't thanked you before, thank you (and Barbara) for all the assistance you gave me in getting the car back to the UK in 2011. You'll be pleased to hear the restoration is now progressing well and I hope the car will be back on the road in the UK by next year. Due to personal circumstances it's been a long journey but it's nearly complete.

Another 356 saved !

Best,

Garfield Smith

Welcome to our club
I'm over there in the UK. Currently in Spain , but driving back shortly for the Castle Hedingham Porsche event which unfortunately clashes with the Brooklands German Day.
We own Mike Smith's very first 356 ! I must say that Mike and Paul Smith at PRS services are the most lovely guys. Welcome again.

I sold a 58 red rhd coupe to australia about 30 years ago. Would not have thought it would have "left" there. Best to banish all of those rhd cars there or to england (LOL)

Dear George,

Thank you. That's unlikely to be the car. It was silver (painted blue) and was moved to the US in the late 60's and early 70's. It didn't move from the US until I bought it back to England in 2012.

Best,

Garfield

Could that be Nanette Reid's little red coupe?
