Martin, my T6 does not have the seatbelt mounting anchors either below the 1/4 window nor at the rear of the floor. It is a Karmann bodied Hardtop built at the end of December 1961.

My 62 Reuter coupe has the holes below the window but what bracket is there that will fit those holes and be strong enough to attach a shoulder belt? I have looked through all the little pieces I have and don’t see any brackets that will work.

Tom, as far as I know, those anchors weren't added until some time in '63. My Karmann-bodied car with a build date of May 30 has them. Chassis #2135xx.

I think maybe 62 was the year an edict may have been issued in Germany for seat belt mounting points. My 62 VW bought in Germany had them but my buddies 61 did not.

So a number of early T6 cars didn’t have the mounts?

Surely there was a bulletin put out about the change. I searched Conradt's excellent history and found no mention of it.

Good thinking, David, but I don't recall a bulletin on it. Maybe because it would have been a change to the chassis in production rather than a service bulletin applying to earlier cars?

I am embarrassed because the answer is in plain sight in the service manual.

INSTALLATION OF SAFETY BELTS
As of serial Nos.

Coupe
120 620
210 931
Cabriolet 156 B50
Anchorages for the mounting of safety belts are standard equipment.

Great info, David. Thanks! With this info, we can narrow down the production dates.

My cab has no mounting points. Built Oct 58.

Is there a copy of how to mount retractable 3 point belts in a T2 cab?

Thanks
Mark

Mark, do a search in the forum and tech articles. I have retractable belts in my 59 cab (built in 58)
Seat belt planet has them.

I have done a search but cannot really get a clear picture of how to mount the shoulder harness onto the car
