non-retractable 3-point seat belts

#1 Post by Dave Erickson »

I am looking for a pair of non-retractable 3-point seat belts. I went to seatbeltplanet.com, and did not locate any seatbelts with the double hook attachment. The ones I looked at did not have any option for how they attached to the car, all of them had a plate with a hole in it for a bolt. Hoping someone has bought seatbelts recently and can suggest a source.

If Seat Belt Planet has the non-retractable belts but the attachment hardware isn't what you want, I'd call them and talk with Neil. I'm having a set of semi-custom retractable belts made up. He was very helpful.

Good suggestions, but I ended up finding what I needed at seatbeltplanet.com. If you search by make and model they have seatbelts with appropriate attachment hardware. I ordered a pair of seatbelts for 64-65 Porsche 356.

Seat Belt Planet does have belts specifically for our 356's.

Dave I have a set of black used ones if you want them. I can bring them over along with the VDO pressure gauge

Correct as usual Mike. The only issue I have with their web site is that when you list seatbelts by type, you cannot build a seatbelt with the correct options for 356, and not knowing they have those options available when you list seatbelts by make and model.

Steve, should have asked before I ordered. But new seatbelts is not a bad idea.

I, too, wanted something different than shown on their website so I emailed them then had a very productive phone conversation with Neil. When they are delivered and installed, I'll take pics.

It is always a good idea to install a bracket that holds the seat belt securely to the floor. zim

I got a set from Stoddard and installed them. The shoulder strap attached to a mounting point under the rear vent window. We had to drill a hole there as our '64 SC did not have one. Later ones did, I hear. In a head-on collision I understand there might be risk to the collarbone, but I consider that better than a face-plant into the steering wheel. I didn't install a retractor. Had it about two years now and it's comfortable and not much trouble.

Michael, I'm guessing the rear mounting point is covered by the upholstery. My '63 has the attachment points. Also, there should be the factory threaded seat belt anchors on the floor behind the seats.

Yes all T6 bodies have the mounts, normally they are not hidden. Probably an upholstery shop did that.
