I can see this topic could lead off track!! anyway I have been getting all of the parts together to build two more engines, and when sorting out head nuts I found a set of new black short nuts. In examining I found that there are two that have a been reduced on the end that goes next to the head. Is that something special, maybe a 912 smog motor?
Also I have a set of new ones that do not have the groove cut in the side, yet they are the shorter ones that need the washer. So I guess now every nut will have to be measure as not to mix up the old A style, (that come without the groove) with the newly made short style.
Unique head nut?

That top nut is used on 911s in the 70s-89s to secure the starter since some starters had a recess to keep the bolt from turning and when a nut was used it could not be tightened.

Re: Unique head nut?
Jacques, Well I guess that could be a good answer, but I wonder why there were 6 nice black normal style nuts and two like these in a sealed bag, marked head bolts.
