Generator markings
Hello, I know I've seen this covered somewhere but my searches haven't come up with the relevant posts. The same engine, a '55 1500, with the odd oil filter also came with 2 generators and I was hoping to decipher the markings. Could anyone point me to the relevant posts, or can tell me what the markings mean?
Thanks as usual for all and any help in both these questions.

I think the rustier generator is correct

Re: Generator markings
I can't quite read the date code on the first one but the second one is 12T which is December 1962.
If the first one is 1L, that's January 1955.

Re: Generator markings
They're in the quick reference section of the document library along with Bosch parts lists.

Re: Generator markings
Thanks, I'll look at that, in the mentime I've had a bit of a clean up an here are the photos. If it's not possible to easily read in the photo, the stamped number in the middle of the casing is 0124 and under the '6/2500' it's 1L

Re: Generator markings
Thanks, Spencer. I looked but was in the wrong section. Vincent, the Bosch numbers are in the Porsche Parts Numbers and Date Codes section.

Thanks, Jim, but pretty low on the totem pole compared to others in our 356 community.

Re: Generator markings
Not being a Registry document, there would be copyright issues with that.
Some days it's just not worth chewing through the restraints.....

Re: Generator markings
Couple of questions, the Bosch documents, brilliantly pointed out to me as available here, are not Registry documents nor are the workshop manuals etc. I have no idea about copyright life span, but I do know it depends on the publication type. Publically available magazine stuff is, I believe, 50 years BUT to simply quote said pieces or reference said pieces is zero years, as one is giving credit to the original author/publication.
How could one write scientific papers if one could not quote other papers, of course one must give due recognition, referencing and attribution, to what was done and published previously. Anyone any further knowledge?
Also what could be a reason or who would object to 'PR puff articles', produced/commissioned by Porsche, from the '50's and '60's been easily accessible to members of a club promoting the car/product/marque, whatever you want to call it, and being instrumental in keeping this particular product of the manufacturer going. As a brilliant aerospace engineer friend of mine says 'what could possibly go wrong?' I think the answer is nothing in this case.
If all goes to plan we will be in Stuttgart sometime before the end of this year and I will try and see what they say about loading up their archive.
It might help, when we are there, that my wife is a Palaeontologist and has spent all her working life at the NHM so has all sorts of stuff about the benefits of digital access in her massive brain.
You may not recall from our posts re. the '55 we've asked about over the last few years but she bought that......................... big brain!!

Re: Generator markings
Hi Vincent
One of your generators is for a 356, the other is from a VW.
The LJ/GE 160/6/2500 L 2 is correct for a 1955 engine. The other was probably a random replacement generator purchased as a spare by a previous owner.
Although correct for your engine as original equipment, this particular generator is not a high amperage unit and should be used with the correct voltage regulator, a black box RS/UA 160/6/15
