+1 I used a newer aluminum cooler with my rebuild. My original cooler tested fine but was 55 years old.

Thanx guys for your advice, it’s really appreciated.
So after all your posts and a short chat with Doug, my engine specs and component list would look like this:
- Stock engine case
- Stock cranksfhaft
- Stock Zenith carbs with SC jets and venturi
- AA 1720cc big-bore-kit, iron cylinders and forged pistons (30 degrees)
- SC/912 cylinder heads
- Elgin cam 66509
- 123 ignition + converting the car to 12V
- Aluminum oilcooler, stock size
Any complains or other suggestions?
Another question to the 356/912 specialists here: Whats the different between cyclinder heads 616.104.301.02 and 616.104.301.03? Can I pair them? Pictures below. Could get this set for 300 bucks here in Germany, no cracks, no damage.

No functional difference. The 03 head has the extra material so that the holes for the horizontal sheet metal don't go all the way through.

For your carbs you want C internals. The SC only came with Solexes.
Just guessing here, but since you’ll build approximately a high compression C engine maybe somebody could recommend appropriate jets to slightly richen the mixture. Or tell you that’s unnecessary.

I had bad luck with two sets of AA P&Cs. I finally went with Shasta P&Cs and an SC cam from Leonard with my stock C Zeniths. Carb rescue rebuilt the carbs and I finally went with a basic 123 distributor. No need for a Bluetooth unit for theft prevention as it is more likely a thief will tow the car rather than hot wire it. Also an aluminum cooler from Jacques. Very happy with the performance and sometimes I drive the car like I stole it.

@Mark What jets and venturis did you run in your Zeniths? It‘s difficult to get parts for the Zenith here as all the major shops in Europe only sell new webers and no spare parts for Zeniths. Maybe I will contact carb rescue to buy jets and venturis.
So is the SC cam similar to the Elgin 66059? Seems quite difficult to order a cam from Elgin, since they don‘t have an online shop. You need to print out an order sheet which you have to fill out and send by regular mail. Guess it will takes quite a while when you order from Germany But an SC cam is quite easy to find here.

+1 on Shasta P&C. Much better product than AA. Plus, Leonard can help you through all the other choices so you get exactly what you want.

Can you find a C cam in Germany? I think you can just call on the phone and order from Elgin. Cliff Murray gives a very logical discussion about C vs SC for street use here: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=43464&p=284131&hil ... ft#p284131 The Camshaft I used is very close to the Spec that The Maestro Harry Pellow always recommended.

A C cam will be torquier, the SC one is the same as an S used. Depending on your driving style you might prefer one over the other.

He wants more torque in the lower and mid range (mentioned in his 1st post) Porsche's final development for that was the C spec engine.

OK, so I will call Elign tomorrow and see how it goes. Otherwise I will buy a C cam here, seems a few shops have them for sale.
@Doug: You mentioned one of the heads needs to be pluged because it has a hole with a thread. Is this hole visible on the photos I‘ve posted?

My heads have Allen versions of that. And don’t forget to get the rubber with metal fillers for the breather holes too.
