Re: seat belts

The retractors appear smaller than the previous ones so maybe the seat backs can be raised. It's not an issue for me as no one sits in the rear and I use the parcel shelf for suitcases. I will take pics once installed.

I did the Seatbelt Planet adjustable female buckle and the rear retractors are small enough to raise the rear seats.

Apart from color, they look identical to those I bought from Seat Belt Planet many years ago. I had occasion to use the belts in my C in action 4 years ago when I made an off road excursion avoiding a meal of venison on the hoof.
The seat belt shoulder portion locked in place and kept me in the seat and in control enough to not go further off road. One realization I had was in a modern car the air bag would have deployed and total lack of control would have been the result.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

The airbag is only inflated momentarily so it’s not so bad, hopefully we won’t need to know about things like that.
Nobody will ever need that multi tool with an airbag deflater.

Ted, it seems if you tilt the retractors up a bit, the seat backs might go further back and the angle over the shoulder might be better.

Mike - The retractors rotate on the modified aluminum spindle from Stoddard. So the angle of the retractor is automatically adjusted for the height of the wearer. Like you, I’m a bit vertically challenged, so my shoulder is only about an 1” above the back of the seat. Let me know if want a close up photo of the retractor.

I’d be interested in seeing how you attached it.

Since I'm the only driver of my car, the retractor is in a fixed position but I understand the methodology of your set up.

Martin -- used the Stoddard kit (SIC-803-123-21 SET) for the mounting hardware (photo below). The mounting lug was shortened so the retractor frame would be flush with the side panel, but still rotate without any slop (photo shows full rotation to the rear).

Couple photos showing installation. Order is side panel - escutcheon - shortened mounting lug - retractor frame - two washers - lock washer - bolt head. The bolt was threaded into the existing mount. But as some have stated, could cut new threads and use a stronger bolt. So far, the only issue is the retractor plastic covers have two small tabs to keep it attached to the retractor frame - generally tend to pop off the back of the retractor with any movement of the retractor. Would be better if the cover had longer tabs.

Let me know if you would like additional information.

I had used the escutcheons but when I removed the retractors, the insert was cracked. Since you can't see the escutcheons when the retractors are in place, I'm going to leave them off.

The shortened mounting lug- you mean the aluminum knob type thing?
When the rear seats are up can you still use the seatbelt?

Mounting lug photo - just cut off the top lug and part of the shaft, see arrow. The remaining space above the bottom lug is the width of the retractor bracket.

Photo of the seat belt across the front seat with the rear seat up. Most movement causes the rear seat back to fall unless somebody/thing was in the seat. Like Mike, my rear seats stay down.

My seats also stay down but very occasionally I’d like to carry passengers to the ice cream store, and wear my belt in front. With my current retractors I can’t.

Assuming the occasional ice cream store passengers are short, this should work.
