Tire balancing in San Diego

#1 Post by Jim Laing »

I just got a set of new tires for my 1960 B and they were not able to spin balance the wheels and tires. I see that there are a few shops in OC and LA that have the tools but I was looking for a shop closer to me in San Diego county. I am in the North county area. Thanks
Jim

Maybe a search on a VW forum could produce recommendations. I know a couple of people in your area that might know. I'll email them.

Jim, for the cost to balance by a shop you could buy a bubble balancer which will do as good a job as spin balancing. The 4.5 J width is not enough to throw the tire out of balance dynamically as the weight is so close to the center of spin circumference. I have dozens of used tire weights and they are reusable many times over. Tire shops will give them to you if you ask nicely.

If all else fails, "Allen Tire" in Orange County, NPB/Costa Mesa has the equipment. A mile from my shop. ............Jim.

Did a quick internet search and found this plus another. Exactly what I use on the 356's and used to use on the race car. Pretty good price with free shipping.https://www.hainshow.com/vintage-m-60-m ... OgQAvD_BwE

Or just purchase a wide 5 balancing adapter. There are several available on Samba, and I purchased mine from our own Mainely Engineering, who I believe has since closed.

I think Precision Matters (Ron LaDow) bought Mainely By Design some years ago and still offers the wheel adapters. Look him up and ask him. Good luck!!
