I don't know that this car is bound for Amelia Island. If I can get a T6 B upper latch and it works, sounds like it saves me buying the correct part, having the old part cut out, weld in the new one and have a body guy get it prepped for paint.

Greg, I do not have that part, sorry. I thought you were referring to the locking hinge. Did you check with Adam Wright? .............Jim.

If you switched the upper latch then the lower one would not match it, the B lower (also like an A) is very different. Changing that would be even more work.

Martin, I am guessing you are talking metal work as opposed to just the receiver? I took a photo of the receiver that is currently installed. Also, it looks like some metal work was done around that little shelf that the receiver bolt in to.

Yes the B version doesn’t even have a shelf at all. There is a 4” wide bracket welded in, a totally different system. That RD hood inner panel is the way to go. You might use the whole piece, or a portion of it.

I must be missing something here. It sounds like there was a hood produced years ago that fits the 356C but, the area where the latch attaches is not correct? The repro hood was made for the T6 B latch. So, anyone who bought the hood would have had to have modified the existing shelf area in their 355C as Martin described above or, would have had their newly purchased hood modified to accept the real 356C latch. This one makes no sense unless, it's part of a Monty Python skit.

I think there may have been an adaptor plate to make one style into the other. Not sure which was the beginning type, or if I imagined this.

Greg It is my understanding that at some point in the past the replacement hood was a C hood with a plate attached making it work for a T6B. The RD T6B hood currently sold may be that way still. With the plate removed it was a standard C hood. See Brad's #4 comment: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=33276&p=187334&hili ... +C#p187334

My B has a C hood with a B striker widened to fit. I bet you could make a C striker fit but you might need to cut off the finger plate. You’d have to pull the safety catch forward with one finger to release it.

This is what the repro NOS hood looked like, a welded plate to adapt.

Not to tempt the fates but, can the plate that was welded in just be removed? Angle grinder?

No, you can actually buy a tool to drill out spot welds.

Either way can get it apart as long as you’re careful. You have to look very closely though to see if yours has that plate or if it’s just the wrong hood. When I bought my hood at the Stoddard swap meet twenty years ago I thought all T6 hoods were the same.

Thought I posted this before but, maybe I didn't hit the submit button. Got a closer look at the hood tonight and, it does have an impression. It's a little obscured due to one of the previous owners having applied generous amounts of bondo. So, tomorrow I'll pull the upper latch from my other C to see if it works. Restoration of these cars tends to give rise to new four letter words and when things work out, little happy dances in the garage that my wife doesn't understand. Not at the happy dance point but, it's feeling a lot better now that I got a better look tonight.
