Hi CJ
Honing is done after plating. I had to hone brand new Mahle Motorsport cylinders to improve the circularity and assist in break in for 3.8/4.0 911 engines for a builder that did Singer engines. The guys that do single cylinder motorcycle engines sometimes do not pay attention to the heights or make sure the installation surfaces are parallel. The plating process is very dependent on preparation degreasing is paramount if done thermally you can de temper the alloy if left in the oven too long. Initially a zinc or other metal was plated first to improve adhesion but now they use a chemical conversion bath. I prefer to have EBS or LN deal with the providers for maximum leverage if problems occur.

Thanks all for the help and advice. A set is now listed in the classified section for $175 as cores.
Might be affordable option to get aluminum nickies.
