Like this, strange bracket.

Yeah that is my understanding, normally it'd be under that dash but I'll admit I'm very new to the 356 world. Maybe some rally chronographs would look cool in that spot as an alternative.

Once it’s already got a hole I’d probably put a radio back in it. Unless you don’t need one.

Thanks. I don't recall ever seeing a Roadster with an in dash radio etc. My dad hung his from underneath the dash TG. I also still want to know about the ashtray--just curious...

Part of the fun will be piecing together all the history of this. The owner was pretty meticulous and had the car since 1964. His daughter tells me there is a stack of records.

Vince, here is a pic the original owner sent me of the dash. It shows the radio mounted in the dash. As I understand it, he had the factory install it a day or two after he purchased the car in Frankfurt. It was a stereo radio, which was a bit unusual at the time; apparently the tubes of the amp were under the passenger side floor board (long since gone). He also had the ashtray beneath the dash, along with a lighter in the dash. So your dash is somewhat similar to this layout. The Kardex will help for sure.

Welcome. Thank you for sharing your story. That radio is quite a reach for the driver?

Good point Neil. In this State, you would get a ticket for Distracted Driving for just changing the station....

Funny people are so fixated on the radio, though I guess I didn't have a lot of other information. It's not as far to the passenger as in the above photo, in fact it's just barely off center. I did check out the car again yesterday in storage and am making plans to have it taken to Bill Eason's shop soon.

There also appears to be a radio installed behind the blanking plate as I could see a radio mounting cage and wires coming out. There is also a single speaker installed in the passenger side footwell.

Unfortunately, the previous owner appears to have removed one of the carbs (likely to fiddle with it) but it is nowhere to be found now. I did locate the air filter though.

On another topic, what is this little metal ring attached to the dashboard here for? Is it some sort of anti-theft device (e.g. lock the steering wheel to it?!)

He may have run a cable through that as a theft deterrent.

Beautiful car - nice going!
