Be careful which clip you purchase. The ones for VW are different than those for 356.

Thank you John! Looks like a pretty reasonable DIY job, though I'm guessing maybe a little harder with the tire still on the wheel?

Other than reaching around it the tire is not an issue.

BE careful on the clips you buy, like Dave Erickson mentioned earlier, many of the repro VW clips do not have the "return" on the outer end, these can trap the hubcap when the end goes in behind the lip. Like these;
