Cost of Powder Coating Engine Tin

#1 Post by Tom Manson »

So what's it cost to powder coat engine tin? Does it have to be clean before going to the painter or does the painter also charge you for cleaning? There are a lot of peices involved. Anyone want to share their experiences?

Tom,

I recently had my S90 engine rebuilt and the powder coating cost me about $350.00 or so. Of course, this had the rebuilders markup in it, but at least this amount s/b a start for you... 8)

Tom
I had my 912 tin powder coated here in Utah a couple of weeks ago at a cost of $250 which included the sand blasting. Looks like new including the heater boxes which were really grungie. I did not do any prep beforehand.

Tom,
I had all my engine tin and fan shroud (different color) powder coated and the muffler and heat exchangers high temp powder coated for just under $400.

For blasting and coating all the tin - only $180. And a perfect job too.
(The tin removal from the engine is said to be like plucking a chicken!)
