Try Rotella T4 15w40. Good all around dino oil that has high ZDDP and minimal detergent so you can use it as a break in oil too. Just change often

And not $9-$14 per quart like the Driven. I’ll make an exception to my rule and go to Walmart for some Rotella.

Martin, O'Reillys will do a price match.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

The home depot deal looks good for 2.5 gal.

Re: Valvoline VR1 20/50 Mineral.
I use VR1 20/50 in all of my 60's classics (German, American, French) and in my 356 race car. It's one of the few high zinc oils available. Every time it goes on sale, I buy out the store. And I know others that do to.

Re: What kind of oil should I use / what is the "best" oil?
That's what I have used for a few years now, cheaper at Walmart or occasionally thru Amazon. $36-42 for 5 quart jug. Always available at local stores. The 20/50 conventional has levels of ZDDP at 1400/1400. They also have a full synthetic 20/50, which is run in the 968, switched from the conventional VR-1 last year 1400/1300 ZDDP not much more expensive.
With my new 356 engine I will run the synthetic once it has broken in for a few miles.
Mobile V-Twin 20/50 full synthetic has higher level of ZDDP. 1600/1750

Re: What kind of oil should I use / what is the "best" oil?
Personally I believe 1200 ppm of ZDDP is about right. Plus minus about 100 ppm is acceptable. Too much ZDDP is harmful, so to that end I will stay with Mobil 1 or Shell Rotella synthetic .
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

If you can get Mobil 1 a lot cheaper than VR1, is there any reason to spend the extra money?
