Pete,
Couple of comments & questions:

1) Anyone notice the street address?
2) What year was the pic was taken?
- The front VW bus looks to be 1955-1958 & the back VW bus looks to
be pre March 1955.
- Perhaps someone can date the 550 & RS 60 in the pics?
3) Who's the guy in the pic?
4) Anyone know or recognize were the pic was taken?

Ron is correct.., that is Vasek. Noticeably different changes on the Type II bus in 1962 so they are pre that (I have a 1961 bus.) The pic is from Riverside, I believe mid to late 50's. Cool that the address is "356" S. Sepulveda Blvd. on the VW...

While I was looking for the Art Bunker hauler I came across this pic.

Currently owned by Brumos Porsche:

Anyone recognize who this is? He has great taste in race vehicles and tow vehicles!

Looks to be 1958 or later by dating the VW Bus...

Very good eye!

I believe the one in Germany is a recreation of the original one. There are a couple of details they failed to get right. If it is one in the same they installed newer bumpers and I believe tailights than the original. Overall, it is a very nice twin to the picture of the original one. I wouldn't kick it out of my garage.

I remember seeing these at Art Bunker's dealership where I bought my VW beetle.

Replica or not it's pretty nice. I'd like to have one... but the price of decent a SC Bus being what it is, build cost would be quite a commitment.

That is a ssssttttretched chassis. The examples by the Dutch company Kemperink were usually enclosed, although there are pics of their version:
