Paint color R 604 Polyantha Red

#1 Post by Bob Watts »

Brett lists as a 1956 color only. This example on a 05.08.57 "Date ready" car. Yes, Porsche would build whatever the customer wanted (or whatever paint was left over, I guess).
FYI, original paint where the sun don't shine, and does. Reutter 604 Enamel, Porsche No. 5602.
Photos match color pretty well.

Thanks, Bob, and a nice addendum to the thread I stated here:

That color is lovely and these posts are important for the historical record since no one has the paint formulas anymore. Now all we need is for someone who has a period correct
Maroon #503 356 to post pictures that have been matched to that car's true interior colors.

carl, i recently posted just such a match. the best (and near perfect) match i have been able to do after almost a year of trying for maroon as original to my 53 is a ppg color #709940. this is a ringer for the original color under the running board mat, the inside front of the doors, and under the lights where the re-sprays never got. dont know about all light conditions, but in medium and direct light it is impossible to tell the difference. regards,

Kurt,

Do you mean the Karmann Ghia paint chips you posted? If not there, then I can't find the posting. I am trying to establish a record for these colors so anyone who stumbles across this thread will be directed to the others, and vise versa.

On another matter, thank you for giving me some great laughs with your recent posts. That comment to Rusty is a classic! Great sense of humor! :D :D :D

carl, feels strange to be posting to lake bluff but kinda right. the post i was referring to was answered by you but not the recent one you refer to. it was merely a rehash of my paint odyssey, not the ghia colors. regards, happy to be of some comic relief,
