Hi all
Just starting to strip this engine down of all the outside parts, ready to inspect and see what work is required. I believe this engine to be a 616/2 Super.
It is not the car's original engine but fairly close ref numbers. Without researching, I thought I would ask here what the bolt is, located above and behind the crankcase drive pulley ? Also is that cutout on the drive pulley oil seal housing for removal?
I do have an original copy of Harry's "Secrets' book. I really must sit down and give it a proper read!
T.I.A for any replies
Cheers Jay

That may be the #4 bearing retainer bolt, basically a dowel pin, if you mean the one pointing toward the crankshaft axis.

Thanks Martin
Now the generator and support is removed the stamping on the case is much more clear, and is stamped 612/12
But Engine Number on the 3rd piece is P89104 ! Which I thought was an early Super engine (616/2)
Not sure what I have here!
Regards Jay

Hi Max
Thanks,That's what I thought! Perhaps the 3rd Piece is a replacement (with the 616/2 Number) ?
Now with the Engine Type number on the crankcase showing 616/12
What are the differences between the 616/2 and the 616/12 ?
What do I look for?
Cheers Jay

Re: *P89104*
Good question. The records show 616/2 as an S case for years 60 to 62 , & 616/12 as an S case for years 62 to 63.someone more knowledgable might step in here ....Vic
My guess is a 61 S front cover ( 3rd piece ) married to a 62 or 63 S case ?
Both rated at 74 hp din.I believe so the difference between the cases would be minimal I’d guess.

Re: *P89104*
A 616/2 case probably did not have the flywheel area reinforcing ribs. My '60 S90 did not have the ribs. I think the 616/12 cases did have them. Other than that, both cases have the preferable large oil pump and should be the same. Some other changes, like a larger diameter oil pick-up tube came later, I think. Maybe I should read Harry's books again too...
