carpet in front trunk

#1 Post by paul vantol »

For my 53 cab 60240: Anyone have pictures of how the carpet along the side of the front trunk is finished toward the front of the car?

Two of the very few original upholstery pieces I have from my '53 cab 08/17/53.

Carpet is in great shape Spencer! Grey or beige?

Hope it goes back into your cabriolet.

Same question to you Alan.

And of course all carpet becomes beige over time via exposure to the elements. But is there a protected area that is still grey or beige?

My carpet pieces are beige; consistent with the Reutter certificate. The gray cement floor is probably not the best background to show the color, and these pics are with flash. Yes, the carpet and cloth trim are in great condition and after an hour or so with the Bissell cleaner will look like new. They'll definitely be back in the car!

James,
I always thought of it as tan but perhaps beige is the correct term.

These carpet pieces are still in a very nice condition!

I was not that lucky finding an original carpet in my project car.
Therefore, I would like to know the length and width of this trunk sidewall carpet.
Can Paul or Spencer provide these dimensions, please?

Thank you! Martin

Hi Martin:

The long straight edge is 26" and it is 9 3/4" wide. If you send me your address tho, I will make a tracing for you which makes more sense because of the curve, etc.

NOTE:

Spencer has a hole in the one piece in the same location that I have. This is where there is an access hold on the side of front trunk. Just wondering, however, whether there was some kind of interior grommet or square cover there because the carpet "hole" is squarish and larger than the round access hole....

AND: is there sound deadening behind the gas tank and up to the carpet? Is Stoddard's material what should be used? Is there any sound deadening covering any other area of trunk?

Thank you, Paul, for the dimensions!
With these, the pictures and my copy machine, I will be able to make the patten myself. Thanks for your offer anyways!

Great looking carpet samples the guys.

Yes, sound deadening mats behind the gas tank, cut out around the bottom of the bonnet hinge pockets and to the sides of the gas tank on the luggage compartment walls. Only up to the carpet binding. There is no other deadening mats anywhere else in the luggage compartment.

I agree Alan. The color is somewhat darker than what I think of as beige. After a couple of hours with the carpet shampoo machine my trunk carpet pieces look light-brown or tan and the cloth binding is a color closer to beige. Interesting explanation on the BEHR website: "...Browns with orange undertones are the colors we associate with the term beige. Browns with yellow undertones constitute the tan shades..."

Guy's

What's the consensus did the trunk carpet match the interior carpet color? If the car had blue carpet was the trunk carpet blue?

Thanks,
Tony
