fuse box tag

#1 Post by Jim Wayman »

Attached is a picture of a tag on the fuse box of a 1956 MY car. Anyone seen these before and what years were they provided? Sorry, can't figure out how to attach a photo, has the process changed? The tag is in 3 languages, German, English and French and says "The lighting equipment for instruments, and in particular cases, the petrol pump, are provided with fuses in their leads." It is an amber color with black print and is on a thick coated paper secured with the screw that holds the cover on.

I had the same tag on my 56 Speedster. I was told it was for a Carrera fuel pump. Tom

Gee .... I have one of those tags (not for sale) and was thinking about a reproduction .... but was never able to figure out what it was for and what cars it would have been put on ! It wasn't common but I've seen others at swaps, etc. Anybody have further ideas or documentation?

My belief is that they were put on early Carrera fuse boxes. As Tom says, they had electric fuel pumps.

My 5 Speedster was not a Carrera. 19,000 miles on it when I bought it around 1969/70. Tom

The fuse cover from my old non-Carrera 56 Coupe.
The tag was attached this way when I acquired the car in the 80s, but there's a shadow around the hole...

Hi Jon,

The material on yours almost looks like plastic. Is this so or is it the coated paper referred to by Jim?

Thanks,

Joris

Tag is plastic that is brittle with age. It is captured by the cover screw.Tom

Joris, the tag appears to be resin-coated paper, although I don't see evidence of paper fiber along the broken edges.
It's definitely laminated, and not a single, solid material.
