Grille Badges
I seem to remember someone selling 200,000 km (a variation on the 100000 km badge from the factory) grille badges a few years back. It might have even been through the goodie store. Does anyone know a current source for these? I can’t locate it on the interwebs anymore.
Thanks,
Ian

Re: Grille Badges
Pics of 2-3-400,000 km etc. badges on old Rennlist talk but nothing on eBay, The Samba or Google search.
Best of luck in your search. Hopefully there is one out there.

Re: Grille Badges
Thanks Mike. I think it might be one of those “should’ve bought it when I saw it” situations. I’ve seen a few of the 100000 km badges out there on eBay, so maybe I just need to get one of those. Perhaps Porsche Classic could reissue them (for a fee of course).

Re: Grille Badges
Glad to be of some help, Ian. I wonder how many were made and by whom. The 100,000 ones come up, some repro and a very few originals. Maybe do a screen grab of a 200,000 one and paste it on a 100,000 one until you find a real one?

Re: Grille Badges
Mike, that’s not a bad idea. I know Mike Robbins used to get a sticker made for his badge when he hit another 100000 on his Speedster. I’m not sure if the number produced, but I remember seeing one on one of the “regular” websites we frequent. The problem is that some of those “regular” 356 websites have shut down since then.

Re: Grille Badges
Seems like a sign shop might be able to make a sticker from a screen shot.

Re: Grille Badges
Has anyone ever been concerned that a grill badge might impede flow of cooling air? Especially single grills.

Re: Grille Badges
I know there has been discussion about it but I haven't read any definitive conclusions.
I have my badges mounted on a bar attached to the license plate bracket.

Re: Grille Badges
I think it depends on the number of badges. One or two probably won’t change the flow of air too much. More than that on a single grille might effect the cooling properties.

Re: Grille Badges
I have often wondered that,. The car that I posted had six badges on it, we removed them except for this one and a pca badge from 1964

Re: Grille Badges
Both 100K and 200K badges were sold in the Goodie Store several years ago. Unfortunately there are no more in stock.
I can inquire about re-producing if there is interest. Stay tuned..........................

Re: Grille Badges
Thanks Diane, I knew that I had seen them somewhere. I don’t know what you require for a production run, but I’m in for one of whichever one you decide to make.

Re: Grille Badges
Actually, Porsche was concerned about the number of grille badges. In an early 1960s issue of the house magazine, Christophorous, there was advice given, not to use more than one badge per grill, so as not to significantly reduce the air volume being drawn in. Personally I doubt that having more than two grille badges would cause any problems, unless you were steadily cruising at 100mph speeds. I believe their concern was more typically conservative German logic.
