Did you have to put new foam seals inside your heat valves in the dash?

Mark, this is Andy Daughtery’s shop in Louisville KY. He is doing all the real work. My wife and I stripped her (lots of photos) but he did all metalwork and is now putting her back together. Andy, learned at the knee of his father, Ken Daughtery. and restored his first VW at about 14.

Yessir. All seals have/are being replaced. Car was totally stripped, glass blasted, and floor pans, battery box, lower door skins, longitudinals, and nose were replaced.

Did you remove the rivets, or do it with tweezers? I am undecided on which way to do mine, finally found a source for brass rivets/ eyelets but didn’t order any yet.

Andy Daughtery is doing the work and he asked, ” Heat valves in the dash ? Is he talking about the fresh air boxes under front hood on c cars ?”

Andy says, ” Assume he is referring to flappers in the fresh air boxes. Yours were ok. If they are there and in tact leave alone. If not removing rivet is only way to get new seals under the metal plate and firmly secured. ”

Martin, do share. I looked for quite some time and couldn't find anything quite right.

It’s Jay Cee Sales and Rivets, look under brass eyelets. They have sizes from too small to too big. Soon I could remove one of my rivets to measure. I will need to make a punch pair for setting them

Did you add the Dynamat to the roof ? In stripes ?
Do 356s have a traditional insulation on the roof ?

We intend this car to be as quiet inside as possible.i don't believe there is/was any roof insulation from the factory.
