California Fires

#1 Post by Jim Beam »

I certainly hope that the California fires have not destroyed any of our beloved 356s. I suspect otherwise. Fingers crossed.

I`ve had 2 come close.
At the bottom of our mountain, closing the main hi-way that comes up our mountain.
I`ve been evacuated 3 times in the past, hope it doesnt come to that this year.
"Fire". Its the new 4 letter word.

Came really close last year and had to sacrifice my mothers S63 conv launch edition car. It didn’t burn but the smoke damage is awful and the car really can’t be used. I’ve been suing mercury insurance for a year.... and counting! Go figure

Living in a rural area fires are always a potential threat and unfortunately occur to often. In 2017 we were evacuated and had to evacuate our 3 horses, 2 tortoises and had to make a hard decision of leaving my 3 Porsche’s behind. The fire was contained within 10 acres from our property. Clearly escaped a catastrophe. What I did discover is how few people know how to drive a stick shift. We loaded up the trailer and the old pick up and trailer is all that we took.

We were very lucky that we were not forced to evacuate. We were right on the border in Santa Rosa. We packed our cars just in case. I learned that I could fit our 356 engine case in the back seat of the 911 along with a few other hard to replace items in the event we needed to make a quick exit.

I think it's time to put a trailer hitch on the Cayenne...
