Do you know anyone that owns a 63 Super 90 coupe? Yellow Maybe?

#1 Post by Eric Lenius »

Hey There!

I am going to approach this in a more direct way. After looking at the other posts I made, I see that they are so oblique that there is little chance of the desired result. Anyhow.....Do you know anyone with a 63 super 90 coupe? I am trying to locate the owner of 211906. This coupe was last seen painted yellow selling on ebay in 2007. If the registry VIN database is correct, this coupe has engine 800896 in it, which is the correct engine for our 1960 coupe. Seen a yellow driver scooting around your area?

Thanks,

Eric L.

Eric:

Just wanted to make you aware that the 1963 Porsche cars used two different engine sequence numbers. The earlier 1963 Super 90 engines had serial number range P80661 to P807000. Later Super 90 engines had serial number range P0800501 to P0801000. This later series of engines had some of the improvements in the case that were also used on 356C motors.

My point is, the Super 90 engine in 211906 falls into the range of a 1963 S90 motor if you add the 0 in front of the 8. In other words, P800896 is a 1960 Super 90 as you have identified. P0800896 is a 1963 late series Super 90 engine. It is my experience that these late series P06 Normal, P07 Super and P08 S-90 engines are sometimes misidentified. If the owner didn't provide the 356 Registry data base with the P08 identification instead of the P8 identification, the engine may actually be a late 1963 Super 90.

I hope you find the engine you are looking for. But I suggest you carefully double check to make sure its not a 1963 engine with a very similar serial number.

Good Luck

Hi John,

Thanks. That is a possibility. I do have the Kardex for the 63 (211906). The Correct engine for it is 806148. So, it falls outside of that range of engines. Bill Block was the one that made the entry based upon the ebay listing. Bill certainly knows engine numbers. In any case, if I can somehow locate the owner, the question can be asked.

Regards,

Eric L.
