white 356 shoud

#1 Post by clark callis »

i have this 356 shroud i am working on, blasting it down to bare metal, originally it was white, which i have heard of, but never seen before. i have been told they came in satin black, gray, silver and white, i have exact match for black and gray, but this is white, and it is not gray, which i thought at 1st, see pics. there is no way you can convince me this is gray,,, so what years / models had white shrouds?

Sine there's no way to convince you it's gray I won't try to...so I'll only say they didn't come in white.

Some might say it could be a pre-primer, but they were never primed originally.
Maybe a previous owner did it--in White.

Here you go. I’m old enough to have seen these in person.

Max, many years ago, I claimed 'that ain't gray enough' and bought a rattle-can from Brad at NLA. Yep, it was 'gray enough'.
There are folks who have spent a lot of time making sure it's 'gray enough'; Brad's one of them. And he's one to whom we all al thanks.

I doubt one should pick a color shade using the internet viewing pictures, but here is one for some comparison.......

The color is Heron Grey, used on Super 90 engines after Silver.
Basically a "T-6 thing"

Definitely looks more white than grey. Unless I’m color blind. I’ve had a heron grey 62 S90 coupe and it has a little more tint of grey then light Ivory of the same year.

I’ve seen several renditions of Heron Grey by well known restoration shops and some like to use more grey tint in there representation.

Color is very subjective and seen differently by many.

This is a photo of an original paint shroud from a 1962 Super 90.
Only the generator had been replaced on this 18K mile example.
