Engine Spray Can Color Match Samples

#1 Post by Dennis Vogel »

Following my efforts to color match powder coat samples, I've now taken a run at spray cans. This to hit the oil filter canister and oil filler can which are cautioned against powder coat.

Perhaps it’s no surprise, Stoddard Filter Canister Silver offering is quite a good match.

My luck was not as good on the black, despite trying several recommended offerings. Best I found was Eastwood Original Chassis Black Gloss. I think it's a bit too glossy. Vic had referenced a semi-gloss from them, but I don't see it as currently available.

Eastwood calls it Satin Black. I use that on axle tubes and backing plates. Might be a bit too flat for engine metal. I do use the Gloss for engine bits.

I have recently started to use 2K cans. Not sure if they are available over there. We have a place here who for a fee colors matches them. Way more durable than regular 1K cans.

Might be something for you to look into.

I recently found a better match in terms of color and amount of gloss. It also has the added benefit of being temperature resistant up to 500°F. It's Duplicolor Semi-Gloss Black Engine Enamel with Ceramic. SKU: DE1635 Even had it in stock at my local O'Reilly Auto Parts store.
