Soft top care

#1 Post by Bill Lawless »

Silly ?--
I, like most here, am a nice weather "only" driver.. Which means I just leave my Cab top down in the garage all the time and only take it out on nice days..

IS THIS BAD FOR THE CONVERTIBLE TOP STAYING IN THAT POSITION ALL THE TIME...

-Bill
 Thanks,
Bill

yes leave it up, and periodically blow it off with some compressed air and roll with a lint roller, the rear window can be wiped with a wet microfiber towel

Some owners believe it best to periodically raise/lower the top, in order to 'exercise' it. If left in only one position it may take a 'set' and become troublesome at a later date. I'd alternate months with the top up one, down the next.

The gentleman who made my top worked for Harrah's Auto Collection for many years and did all their upholstery and tops. His recommendation is to leave the top up except when you drive with it down. Wash it regularly with a very mild "car soap" Clean the vinyl rear window with only water and microfiber or a vinyl/polycarbonate cleaner like Plexus (https://www.amazon.com/Plexus-Plastic-C ... 334&sr=8-3) So far that has worked very well (4 years and 10K plus miles)

Bill: I leave mine down for 8 months and then put it up over winter. I've done that for years and its been fine. If you leave it down for years it will get hard to put up.
