Fuel tank detail

#1 Post by Tom Kaiser »

Would like to know what would be the correct fuel tank for a 2/54 build car , 60428
Looking for a stock tank but do not know exactly which production years will fit to a 53 model build in 2/54.

Fotos showing the details are appreciated

Tom,
I'm pretty sure T1 and T2 tanks will fit your 53/54 cab, but the correct one has six long ribs with no mounting hole for a fuel sender unit. This from 60238 (August '53). Later style for cars with fuel gauges shown in 55 parts manual illustration 23 showing six ribs with two of them shorter and the fuel sender mounting hole. Correct cap will have very narrow grooves like the one pictured. Be aware that many original tanks will have pinhole leaks and may need to be lined with one of several plastic products before use.

This is the original tank from my '55 coupe mfg. date May of '55. Six long ribs with no depression for the sending unit. (Vent cone is not attached but you can see the spot where it was soldered to the tank.)
