Given I have an unrestored one, I’ll say black. At least for the 100 liter size.

I also had a polo red first paint unrestored 67S with a standard tank and I’m pretty sure it’s dark gray. Almost 100% but I’m on the opposite coast from it now so I’d have to wait to look at it.C J Murray wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2019 11:00 pm My 1 owner never restored 67S with standard tank has a light gray tank. Yes, sombrero up to mid '65 I believe. After that they changed to the fully schutzed dark grey tanks which did not have a sombrero.

How did this thread go from a $500k Speedster to a '67 911S?
Maybe start another thread in Off Topic??

I have 7 of those magnesium torque thrust wheels. I may just have sold them with the car project (a B roadster) today. They are amazing.

I wonder if his tank was a replacement as no way it left the factory light grey.Eric Linden wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 4:47 pmSorry Dan and others,... I was caught up in "feeding the troll".Dan Macdonald wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 2:38 pm How did this thread go from a $500k Speedster to a '67 911S?

I also have a Speedster that has had some handiwork by Rod Emory, although it's very limited, it was christened with an "outlaw" badge back in 2000 by Gary and Rod (Louvered rear deck lid, Robert Kann rollbar, 912 engine, 741 gearbox, tenax mount stone guards, hood straps, disc brakes, real magnesium torq thrust D wheels, and some very clever front driving light mounts hand build by Rod).
I think Rod's work is magnificent... it reflects as "pure Porsche" in my eyes, and I'm sure that the good Dr's who have passed away would certainly approve. I look forward to the upcoming cars he's doing and see where he goes! With any luck I'll be able to get in line for my own project some day in the future.

We all know that you can never say “no way it left the factory” when it comes to Porsche. They used everything they had available at the time. They were building production cars not concours queens.Richard Emerson wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 7:08 pmI wonder if his tank was a replacement as no way it left the factory light grey.Eric Linden wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 4:47 pmSorry Dan and others,... True in a sense but when light gray hadn’t been used in years it seems to hardly be the use of surplus supplies like in most transition cases?
We should assume the simplest explanation which was it was leaking and got replaced by dealer stock or something.

True but usually when old inventory got used up during transitions and light gray hadn’t been used in some time. We should go with the simplest explanation which perhaps was it was leaking at the dealer and they replaced it with what they had.
