The 64 dollar question is how do you change the oil filter if you have the sheet metal piece installed that keeps the muffler heat off the oil pump. Or for that matter how do you change the filter id the sheet metal is not there? It does not seem to have much room around it to get a gripping device on the filter. The edge between the #4 cylinder sheet top sheet metal and the lower air channel does not seem to have a place for screws? I used a magnifying glass for a close look and the area of the side horizontal panel at #4 has been cut. I am sure you have figured this out BUT you should have shown us a picture of the project completed. al

Napa has this oil filter wrenches around $7.0 ( seven dollar )
works great with your 3/8 drive....

For now fuel is by electric pump...Like Carreras...
Casting has the fuel pump location but did not drill due to new design of mechanical fuel pump drive loop on the
distributor drive shaft ( this will be addressed later )

Craig: That is an interesting question. I do not see any possible way to install a mechanical fuel pump. The distributor shaft housing is in the way even if you cut it away it seems as if the distributor shaft will be in the way. It also seems as if it will be very crowded as the original distributor is installed. I was wrong about he oil filter not having one of the modern oil filter tools so I am waiting to be embarrassed trying to learn how all this works. al zim

Ab, Maybe you could cast one up that uses your filter, but has stock distributor and fuel pump mounting. While I appreciate the possibilities of duel-plug, the builder must play with CR and squish to maximize, and not everyone wants to do that. A lot of non-stock looking clutter for only minor performance increase. Everyone wants clean oil. And mechanical tach drive.

Craig,
The design is mainly build for Carrera cooling shroud,But very flexible to original single dist. and mechanical fuel pump
and original gen stand of 616,After Carrera style timing cover match plate done ,than we will work upper section of the pattern to original 616 timing cover style.lower section with spin on full flow oil filter,pressure and bypass valves,big oil pump
will be there....Oil pump casting is also flexible to install dry sump pump which factory used on 678/5 aircraft engines...

You got some points and you are seen it correctly...this design is not really build for mechanical fuel pump..
but there is space to put one..it is tricky right now to address...in future we will show how...if any one still wants to use
mechanical one....

Appreciate the Carrera cooling shroud component of your new timing cover, which makes it all worthwhile on its own. You're just having too much fun!

Ibrahim, standing "O", especially for giving consideration to issues other than simply firing two plugs.
I have no idea whether you still use pencil on paper, or software which really does help design, but it took thought on your part to make sure that filter was removable, for example, and more importantly to make sure the stock tin does the job.

It took 10 years ( minus 3 years new home construction ) so 7 years on the project very part time....wasted many thousands $$$
Many changes....Long ,Long times thinking ,re thinking....
Pattern maker did it old fashioned way ...each piece on wood pattern,,,, added shrinkage and hand build every component,part time just the pattern model and core boxes
took over 2 years....
Worked on the first casted prototype every day one month on cnc machining to check every dimension from aircraft 678/5 engine timing cover, specially the angles of the twin dist. housings,,,,and oil pump cavities and angle drilling to pressure relief valve for oil filter and bypass valve...so many measurements, so i do not scrap the part.
In tool and die we say 3 times measure one time cut......but all these works I enjoy every minute for to see the end result...therefore i used an old original engine
with regular cooling shroud and many crazy additions to get testing going...I am at the moment out of Carrera cooling shroud pieces .....
The upper section of the timing cover build to hold the Carrera cooling shroud unit,our new design will be all bolt on...like factory...Old design was ,we were welding blocks on the 616 engine case to except the carrera gen stand.....

I love your work and fully respect all the beautiful parts you make to enhance the 616 engines...If i can be with my parts bring improvement and smiles to our love of 356
Than mission is accomplished.....
