Pre A Bumper Fitment

#1 Post by Bruce Grant »

Hi All,
I am wrapping up my body restoration and needed to fit new pre A bumpers to my coupe, but lack the exact dimensions of a car to compare to. Please see attached and feel free to comment or suggest a way to confirm fitment. I have been tweaking it based on photos (thank you James!). Perhaps someone has a correct car that could provide a few measurements?
Thanks again,
Bruce

Bruce, These are some measurements I took from my '55 coupe (10/05/55) a couple years ago when fitting new bumpers to my '53 cab. The '55 bumpers have been on & off the car a dozen times, refurbished, repainted, overriders rechromed etc. so no suggestion that this is factory correct, but it may give you a bit of a comparison guideline. Spacing on your bumpers look fantastic BTW and I wouldn't change a thing!

I would say 2-3cm gap all around is a good guide.

I believe the A cars 57 - 59 have a more pointed nose. And the gap won't be even.

It has always been my observation, but this is with A cars, that the front gap is a bit bigger compared to the rear one.

Hi Bruce I'm almost at exactly the same point in a restoration, just getting to the bumpers on a '52 coupe. I'm wondering if you happened to get any pics of the inside of your rear bumper and the brackets that weld inside it? Just posted a question on this forum and saw your thread. Cheers, Scott
