Do all 356 cars have the same chromed metal frames?

#1 Post by Jon Lieber »

Hello,

I would appreciate knowing if all the 356 cars have the same chrome metal frames? I have a 1956, 356A T-1 Coupe and need to know if the metal cromed frames are the same size etc. and can be installed in different models?

Thanks very much for any help that you can provide.

The door frames are different for the A models ( no vent wings) the early B's (riveted hinges for the vent wings) and later B's and C's with a bullet hinge for the vent window. There is obviously a difference b/t coupe and cabriolet door glass frames and door top chrome strips.

Jon; are you referring to the rear quarter windows?

Vic, thanks for reading my post. Yes, I am referring to the rear quarter windows that are chromed.

I also want to thank everyone who has provided helpful information.

One difference in the rear quarter window frames is that some hinges are riveted and others have screws.....but all are also soldered.

My specific question is are the chromed metal frames for the rear quarter windows in a 1956, 356A T1-1coupe unique in shape and fitment? I am not asking about the front side windows that crank up and down. Thanks for your help on this.

Pretty certain the size and shape are the same but the hinges on the earlier cars were screwed on rather than riveted and the latch assemblies were a bit different with the A models having serrated washers in between the hinge points.
