Reinstalling the windscreen wiper assembly

#1 Post by Vincent Gillespie »

Hello all, I've been at this for hours and it just will not go in so I thought I'd ask just in case I'm missing something.

I've checked my photos and notes and everything is in the correct orientation, I've removed the outer actuating rod, cleaned out the tube in the body and jiggled and fiddled till my fingers and bum are numb. Is it just a case of more numbing jiggling and fiddling until it's goes in? Any and all help gratefully received.

what year of car.. ?
I had to disconnect the mechanism at the back, then reinstall once the unit was back in the car.

Sorry I keep forgetting to put this it's a '55, and I was wondering if it's a case of getting it all lined up, as it's just hanging up as it comes out, and using a 'persuader' for the last bit but worried about knocking off a chip of paint as it gets 'persuaded through the tube.

I had to work mine in a bit, the trick I had to do was disconnect the two wiper connector arms from the shaft.. then work it through the holes, and rehook it all up.. not a lot of force required.. just wiggling.
these are pre restoration pics, after I did some cleaning and polishing work , and sent to Don West, it was "as new" once again..

I have always been told that for a Porsche if it goes in hard something is wrong. The bracket jim has is a for an A car. The pre a bracket is smaller than the A an with a boding tub on the motor.I don't know when the bracket was changed. But that are different.

There's nothing like sleeping on it, although the shafts dig in a bit, loosen off the gearbox retaining bolts, et voila, that miniscule bit of wiggle room is enough to get it in.
