Early 356C Front Latch Plates

#1 Post by Brett Johnson »

356C front latch plates went from flat to one with impressions between December 1963 and April 1964 (see photos). Can anybody help narrow this gap? If you aren't sure of the build date, just the chassis number is okay. If you want to contact me privately, that's okay too: 356drb@indy.net

There was a discussion somewhere about this. If I remember correctly the flat panel used until at least Feb 64

My 1964 356 C ("Ruby") left the factory in September of 1963. The latch plate is flat - and the original flat hub caps had no emblems.

Just curious . What is your VIN and do you have a picture of the flat caps with no emblems.
Did any fall of 63 come with emblems.
Thanks

My 1964 Karmann Coupe from September, 1963 is # 215661. I am wintering far from home and the 4 flat caps with no emblems are in a box in my garage. I never liked them.

I have seen early 911 images with the same hubcaps - flat and no emblem.

Go here to see a Porsche factory photo of an early "C." Check out the hubcaps. This was a 1963 version of the 1964 "model year."
