Re: Members' Old Cars - (Not 356 Porsche)
Eric - that is very, very cool - I had an early Series I back in the 1980's - the frame was so rusty that it broke in half when the guy I sold it to unloaded it from his trailer when he got it home (he needed the axles for his Series I).
At that time no one was making replacement frames or I would have saved it. Surprisingly the firewall was really solid. I've owned 19 Land Rovers since 1973.

Re: Members' Old Cars - (Not 356 Porsche)
I have a '69 e-type roadster. Silver, black top & interior. Bought it in 1971.C J Murray wrote:It's hard to beat the lines of a Jag.
Also had a '71 e-type V-12, 2+2, a '56 MGA, a '56 190SL, etc.,etc....wish I still had them all!
Just realized that I have no pics on my phone or computer of the '69 Jag.
Will have to remedy that when I get home.

Behold… the missing link… our 356 powered Land Rover!
Myself and a buddy built this a few years ago with a wrecked Series II Land Rover, a custom frame, vw type 1 front end, vw type 3 rear end, built vw trans and a super 90 engine.
Crazy? Yes. Stupid, Yes. Funny and fun too.… it's the fastest Land Rover at the autocross!

Re: Members' Old Cars - (Not 356 Porsche)
and since we're talking stupid things I've built...
Here's my old 1942 VW Kubelwagen. When I bought it it was on a 1963 chassis… so I lowered the heck out of it… installed a 2110 VW engine… and fabricated a chopped windshield. (We saved the orig windshield) Nothing was done to the body… it was stock. I did have to create some little brackets that allowed me to lift the front fenders 3 inches… so we could lower the car approx 14 inches from it's orig 1942 height.
Once when I was driving it… a very old guy at an outdoor cafe got up and shook his cane at me… and yelled: "the last time I saw one of those I was shooting at it!!"
I ended up selling it to a fellow in Florida...
note the olive drab tarpaulin covered speedster (cough, dune buggy, cough) seats.

Hi Eric, I'm starting to work on the North South Event for 2020, to be in SLO. I heard about a shop in south SLO that does Porsche work, like 550s, 906s, and other high end vintage Porsches. Do you know the shop?
Thinking of see if we can make a visit. Any other places of interest that might be great for a short drive, car collections, shops, or other stuff.
Thanks, Steve Douglas Soquelglen@prodigy.net

Great cars, and Land Rovers.. Eric, that missing link is wild!
Besides the 356, today it is just this 66 Dodge Van, the beater 74 Plow Jeep and an 84 Gti which I hope to get started on (just a shell right now):
Here are some from the past 10 or so yrs, unfortunately can't keep em all;
82 W123 with 85 engine, 2:88 R end and manual trans swap. Drove like a dream, had over 400K..

Re: Members' Old Cars - (Not 356 Porsche)
I had a late 60s SWB Dodge panel van with slant 6 and 3 on the tree. That thing went around corners like a sports car and the engine was very torquey. I bought it to tow the Elva Courier race car and spares and tools as well as using it to sleep in. Think "low budget racing". That was a great truck. The picture below was taken at Bridgehampton NY around 1974. The pale green with white wheels Dodge is just out of frame on the right.

Hi Cliff, That combo must have been quite a site. Must have been some great times at Bridgehampton in those days. This van also has the slant 6 and three on tree. Has good torque and gets around the hills pretty good for what it is , but I am planning to install a 273V8 I have sitting under the bench. Maybe it'll help scratch the muscle car itch I can't seem to shake...
Juha,
He was a stray puppy we got from the Animal hospital where my wife works, he apparently had a bad habit of chasing horses. He looked like a large flat coat (or black Golden). We clipped him down in the summer, looks like he had short hair in that pic. RIP Bodie - had to put him down several Months ago after 13 great years. We now have an Aussie mix that looks very much like him, but a bit smaller with docked tail. He was rescued from TX, so far another great dog!

Hi M Penta,
Only problem with dogs is that they leave so soon. Great companions and always so joyful.
Unfortunately my 356 has a cage so we can't take our Flat in it.

That looks like a Cox Camper behind the Dodge van - those are neat little tent campers from the 1960's.
A friend of mine has one of those for sale. Its had two careful owners and has always been stored indoors.
