Save the Date! 2019 Boardwalk Reunion!

#1 Post by Robert Gutjahr »

Mark your calendars now and save the date for the first annual Boardwalk Reunion at Ocean City, New Jersey on Saturday, 19 October 2019. The Porsche Club of America and the 356 Registry are jointly sponsoring this new and exciting event, which will bring hundreds of Porsches to ‘America’s Greatest Family Resort’ on the South Jersey shore. Boardwalk Reunion is more than just a laidback cars and coffee on the Boards- it’s a unique opportunity to drive up onto and display your Porsche on one of New Jersey’s most iconic Boardwalks against an ocean backdrop that is simply spectacular. You’ll be able to meet and socialize with Porsche owners from across the Mid-Atlantic region, and savor Ocean City at its most beautiful and peaceful time of the year. We’ll marshal at Ocean City’s Municipal Airport at 10 AM, depart an hour later under police escort, and then park and hang out on the mile long Boardwalk until 4:00 PM. Many Boardwalk shops and eateries will be open, and the pristine beaches are just on the other side of the boardwalk railing. A social at one of the New Jersey shore’s most historic hotels- the charming Flanders Hotel- will follow. If there is enough interest, we’ll reserve a weekend room block at the Flanders for attendees. Registration fees will be minimal and announced at a later date- we would like everyone to enjoy this event for what it is: a low key Porsche gathering “Down the Shore” at Ocean City at the height of autumn. Contact Bob Gutjahr at robert.g.gutjahr@leidos.com or Ellen Beck at ebeck944@comcast.net for further information.

Interested in attending. Please add me to your mailing list for this event. Had to miss the Holiday party there last year, but 356 will be out of paint long before this one!

We are in the midst of having our very cool logo approved. We think you'll like it! We are planning on going live with a FaceBook site here in late March or early April, with a registration announcement soon after that. Stay tuned here for more details, and see you on the Boards at Ocean City on October 19th! Bob and Ellen

We are pleased to announce our Tech Session Presentations and Schedule for the Inaugural Boardwalk Reunion Presented by Porsche Cherry Hill! All Tech Sessions will be at the Music Pier off Moorlyn Terrace right on the Boardwalk.

12:00 PM – 12:45 PM: ‘James Dean's 356 Speedster...Where is it?’ Noted author and renowned James Dean Historian Lee Raskin will discuss the discovery of James Dean’s long lost Porsche Speedster, the car he owned and raced before trading it in on his Porsche 550 Spyder during that fateful month of September, 1955. If you like mysteries, skullduggery, Porsche Speedsters, or James Dean, bring your lunch and listen to Lee.

1:00 PM – 1:35 PM: ‘356 and Early 911 Restoration Tales’ The Paterek Brothers’ John Paterek, one of the world’s best Porsche restorers, will talk about his latest projects: a 1958 Meissen Blue 356A coupe and a 1964/1965 early 911. Both cars are full restorations and both have tales to tell for anyone interested in restoring their car. John has done it all and seen it all when it comes to restorations, and is a regular at Tech Tactics since 1981. Hearing John at Ocean City is a lot easier on the eyes and the pocketbook than Easton, PA. Just sayin’. 

2:00 PM – 2:35 PM: "Classic Porsche Tool Kits" Jerry Manna, a Northern New Jersey Region member and a 356 Registry guy long before the most of the cars on the Boardwalk were built, is extremely well versed on all Porsche tool kits. He’s covering down on kits ranging from early 356s to 964s, as well as Boxster fun facts. A tool kit is the provenance of any Porsche automobile. If you don’t have one for your car, you need one. If you don’t know what should be in yours, this is the expert to talk to.

3:00 PM -4:00 PM: ‘"The Boxster through Time and Boxster Register Tech Quiz” Pedro Bonilla, whose Boxster Board and tech advice is renowned in the Porsche Boxster Community, will explain the conception, introduction and evolution of the Boxster and its variant, the Cayman. And, of course, he will open it up to questions if time permits. The PCA Boxster Register will provide a tech quiz immediately following Pedro’s talk to all of its members and anyone else who owns or is interested in owning these fabulous mid-engine cars. Tech quiz awards will follow at the Flanders’ social.

Greetings to all Boardwalk Reunion Registrants and Procrastinators:

We are looking forward to seeing you at America’s Greatest Family Resort, Ocean City, New Jersey on Saturday, 19 October. It’s going to be a busy day, and if we’re all going to have a great time and make it a safe event, please review the following information. Online Registration is still open but closes 13 October - https://clubregistration.net/events/sig ... event/9936

Lodging update: Due to some cancellations, the Flanders currently has several 1-bedroom suites available. Call them for more information.

Registration at the OC Airport (2600 Bay Ave, Ocean City, NJ 08226):

Registration opens at 8:30 AM and will close promptly at 10:15 AM at the Municipal Airport. We will close the airport tarmac gate at 10:15 AM to all incoming cars.

Trailer parking is located nearby and those entrants who requested trailer parking will receive a separate email. If your plans have changed and you need trailer parking, you MUST contact the Registrar immediately to ensure a space. Do NOT bring your trailer onto the Airport property or parking lot.

Tours and Groups: If you are coming down as a tour or a group, please pass through the gate together. If you are separated before entering the airport, we will not be able to shuffle the cars in line on the tarmac to make room for ANY late arrivals to your group.

Staging and Registration: Please follow the direction of our volunteers. The speed limit on the airport tarmac is 10 MPH. Line up, park and proceed to the registration tables to get your packets and swag. After you have completed registration, fill out your placard and place on the dash. The placard is your ticket out of the airport and onto the Boards.

We are projecting to have six or seven lines of 40-45 cars each on the airport tarmac parking area. There are no food concessions. The airport has a small diner, but the lines will be long that morning. We recommend having breakfast before you enter the airport or bringing it to go. Port-O-Potties will be available for your convenience.

The driver’s meeting is at 10:30 AM, after which you will move to your cars, and prepare to parade to the Boardwalk under police escort at 11 AM.

On the Boards: Tech Sessions start at 12 noon at the centrally located Music Pier (Four sessions, on the hour – see the website for details). One of the cool items in your Goodie Beach Bag is a Boardwalk Reunion Celebration Flag. We ask that you affix the flag to your window after you are parked.

Cars will remain parked until 4:00 PM by city direction and cannot leave until that time. Please be in your cars and be ready to move at 4PM. All cars will exit off the 5th Street ramp.

Dinner and Social: The cocktail hour at the Flanders will begin at 5:00 PM with dinner following at 6 PM. Dress is casual, come as you are. You must have a wristband to enter the Flanders cocktail hour and party (5-10 PM). Dinner will be followed by dancing and the open bar will be available all evening. No dinner tickets will be sold the day of the event. If you want to add dinner tickets to your registration before the Oct 13th deadline, please email the Registrar.

On-Site Registration: Our policy has been no walk ups. However, for this first year of Boardwalk Reunion, we do not want to disappoint anyone who believes, for whatever reason, that they can register the day of the event. For this first year only, we will accept walk up registrations under the following conditions:

• All Registrations on the day of the event will be $50 per car – CASH ONLY
• If people still want to pre-register, they can do so for $30 per car until midnight on 13 October. The on-line registration will close after 13 October.
• There will a separate table for walk up registrations.
• We cannot guarantee walkups will receive a goodie beach bag. Walk ups will receive goodie bags as long as supplies last. Any extra grille badges and sweatshirts will be sold at the Music Pier that afternoon. First come, first served.
• No tickets will be sold on site for the social at the Flanders on Saturday evening.

Thanks for supporting our inaugural Boardwalk Reunion and thanks to our generous sponsors Porsche Cherry Hill and Hagerty Drivers Club and Insurance. We hope you have a great time and enjoy the day. For any additional information, please consult our website: www.boardwalkreunion.org

Next year’s Boardwalk Reunion has been confirmed for October 17, 2020 – see you there!
