644 trans red dot
Does anyone know the meaning of this red dot on a 644 trans? My theory is that it was a warning for the machinist not to drill that hole for a standard trans; that's where the breather goes for a Spyder. Other guesses?
Photo too large; I'm too old to figure it out. The red dot completely covers the circular area on the left side of the trans. Jon?
I think I (Barbara) figured it out; here goes.

Re: 644 trans red dot
Jon Bunin corrected me; it's a 644 housing. Thanks, Jon.
Can't seem to correct the heading.
Thanks, Wes. Corrected.

Vic, you should be able to edit your initial post, including the title. I just tested it on one of my old posts. Clicked the edit button and then edited the title.
By edit: I just changed the title on this post.
I don't think it's an issue. You changed the body of the post OK and future searches should find it OK.

Re: 716 trans red dot
Vic,
I am sure you have seen the red "54" paint remains on the side of speedster 519 transmissions from early-mid 56. Is this a later 56 or 57/58 644 BBAB trans? The factory had an easily spotted difference for those early transmissions for installers, so possibly this was the continuation? Sorry but just my best guess, other than someone painted it after it left the factory.
P.S. Glad you are able to post pictures now.

Are you guys saying I need to paint a Red circle on my '56 EUROPEAN trans. to make it correct. How about my January '54 coupe. ……………………..Jim.

Re: 716 trans red dot
Your 54 coupe has a split case trans. If your 56 European is early 56, then it's still a 519 case.
