Leonard Turnbaugh Rennsport Crash
I understand that Leonard crashed at Rennsport and is recovering from some moderately bad injuries so we should all send him best wishes. I hear that the car rolled over so that must be a mess also. Maybe somebody that was there can add to the story.
Leonard, get well soon!

He was ahead of me so I didn't see it, but the dust was just settling as I went by.

Re: Leonard Turnbaugh Rennsport Crash
I did not see the mishap, but he rolled it, in the gravel in turn two. I was in Don Bells pits playing renndienst. The Marshall said it had some serious right front suspension damage. They got the car off and into a building pretty quick. Lenard was off to the hospital with a couple small fractures one upper neck, lower back and sternum. He was bitching to get out of the hospital three hours later, but they kept him overnight. I spoke to his wife after the car was back in the trailer. He should be OK. Car I am not to sure, but I was told he will fix it.

Leonard is still in the hospital in Salinas, and would appreciate hearing from friends. Use the Shasta Design website phone number.

Re: Leonard Turnbaugh Rennsport Crash
It was actually turn one. I had just come across the bridge at start/finish. Heard the skid and looked up just as he was getting sideways in the gravel. Rolled over onto the passenger side, then came down pretty hard on the top. Ended up right side up facing east. He didn’t move for a good 30-45 seconds. Pretty scary. His head started moving a bit right before the track crew got there. I don’t know what your roll bar set up is CJ, but I would definitely recommend making it at least taller than the top of your helmet. Looked like his was not. Maybe it was originally set up for a shorter driver. J

Re: Leonard Turnbaugh Rennsport Crash
Jay, thanks for the update. I just looked at a side shot of him in the car and he is below the bar but not by too much. Most regulations say 2" minimum but I have never been checked by tech. Also, even tight belts let you move quite a bit during a crash. Crashing with a Hans Device on is a very strange feeling as the device tugs back and forth on your flailing head. Was he wearing a Hans does anybody know? Are they required there?

Re: Leonard Turnbaugh Rennsport Crash
Leonard had his HANS on as he always has since it became available. He does sit below roll bar but as Cliff says, one does move around even with tight 6 point belts.

Re: Leonard Turnbaugh Rennsport Crash
I think that our thoughts should be with Leonard, his wife and family, at this time

I am the other side of the pond but as I understand it, he is currently in intensive care and in an induced coma

Re: Leonard Turnbaugh Rennsport Crash
I got this on the 8th, nothing since
My dad, Leonard, is unfortunately still in the hospital at this time. While he is pretty busted up we are thankful that he is expected to make a full recovery with time.
Thank you for checking in,
Lysle Turnbeaugh
