Think of all those cars on the road today with "positive crankcase ventilation". I doubt that crank case ventilation into the induction system interferes noticeably with engine operation. I can't claim that my 912 suffers on account of the oilyness inside the intake air cleaner.
Gosh, that Ford Falcon tube in your photo is quite a thing. Steel tubing with curves in two directions, tapers, formed flange, welded (rivited?) bracket, and rakish angle exit. Those people must have loved their work.
