Reconnected after 16 years.

#1 Post by Perry DePietro »

I have been a member in the past and have rejoined the 356 fold. My story is somewhat unusual. In ~2000, I moved to Charlotte and found a project 356 Coupe in the dirt basement of a General Store in Warren, NC. I had to cut down a couple of trees to winch out the 1957 Coupe that is the core of the project. The owner also had a "parts car" in a nearby warehouse. The "parts car" was a rusted out '56 Sunroof coupe. I trailered both shells home and started the project. The original plan was to build a GT Clone with a high output engine/drive train.
-----
I started by grafting the '56 sunroof/roof onto the '57. Over the next several months, I replaced the floors/usual rust areas and longitudinal. I purchased a lot of parts for the project, right up until the time that I had some medial problems. I ended up selling the car to two guys in ~ 2002.
------
Fast forward to a year ago. I happened, entirely by chance, to meet a man who had the same name as the silent partner in the transaction 16 yrs ago. He still had my car and it was still in need of completion. A couple of weeks ago, I purchased the car and me and my baby have been reunited.
------
I will start uploading old pix first and then catch up to present day.

The car looks like a very nice project but mostly I am happy that you got past your medical problems and got you life back. Congratulations.
