356 Mechanic in Arizona

#1 Post by Mark Covelli »

Would like to find a mechanic who will allow me to work on my 356 with them. This way I can learn 1st hand what to and not to do. Is there anyone in AZ that does this? I'm a degreed engineer and have restored lots of American cars - just want to learn the Porsche Secrets and want to keep my car tip-top.

Mark,

you should join us and meet some of the local 356 folks. we meet the first weekend of every month at Nico's 4till4 coffee in old town scottsdale. 911 and 356 on the first Saturday, 356 Outlaws on Sunday, it's fun.

For mechanic, you can give Nels a call. I'll email you his info.

Just being picky here of course. Does living in Arizona mean that you automatically live in or around Phoenix? I could not tell from Mark's E-mail where he lives. Arizona seems like a big place to me. I have a good friend who happens to be an expert Porsche mechanic in Lake Havasu City.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Other than Phoenix or Tucson it's pretty empty out here and Phoenix is pretty centrally located. We do have some very scenic roads if your mechanic happens to live on the other side of the state, just bring lots of water and make sure you have some fuel left in your tank.

The best way to find a good Porsche mechanic in Arizona is to.. move to California!

You have some pretty good wrenches in Kalifornia and Competition Engineering is pretty hard to beat, but none would cause me to reverse the move I made in 1995.

Mark, Jules advice is the best. The AZ Outlaws and other regular Porsche 356 guys in AZ know who you should use (or who to avoid) and many would offer you their assistance too. Where in AZ are you located?
