Factory inspection marks
Can anybody point me to a resource for factory chalk, grease pencil, or paint markings found on the chassis, suspension, engine, trans, or body?

Google search:
site:forum.porsche356registry.org "grease pencil"
site:forum.porsche356registry.org chalk
What got stamped or marked varied over time at Reutter. Gläser and Drauz did things a little differently. And Porsche did their own thing during drivetrain assembly and installation, which also varied over time.
What year car are you interested in? And what markings?

Re: Factory inspection marks
Thanks for the reply. I've already searched grease pencil, chalk, factory markings in the forums and articles. I couldn't find much that helped. Restoring a 64 C and would like to see photos of paints dabs that might have been on the transmission, axel tubes, front suspension, etc.James Davies wrote:Google search:

I'm not familiar with any paint dabs on those components. Anybody out there with an original car that has those?

From what I've seen, yellow paint on electrical connections : fuse block screws and positive battery clamp and red paint on steering box and transaxle fill plugs.

I have an original car and there were not any marks from what I can remember. However my fuseblock is untouched and has all the yellow inspection marks. The horns have a yellow mark on one wire and then one on the horn each side as well. Haven't looked under the dash in 50 years so I can't say what may be there. 1963 built 1964 SC.
I posted photos of this some time ago and here is the link. When you see the fuse block there is one new fuse right side. That is the only fuse replaced since the car was new.

This factory inspection mark was on a Behr Fresh air blower. It had several inspection marks.
