Hi All,
Can anyone tell me if there was a different horn bracket for Pre-A and if so, when was the switch to the A style? Anyone have pictures of the older style to confirm? I can find lots of what I have and was told was correct for an A:

Hi Nathan; this is the horn and bracket for '54 Pre-A 60441. it's missing the threaded stud at the base.

What year are you looking for Nathan? James loaded some pictures from the '52 Bosch catalog on this post of the most common horns of the period.nathan kruger wrote:Can anyone tell me if there was a different horn bracket for Pre-A and if so, when was the switch to the A style? Re: horn bracket
March 1954 (like 1953, no horn grills)
When I get home I'll post a picture of what I found at Hershey, billed as a 'pre-A' reproduction
Thanks

Re: horn bracket
Nathan the horn bracket for 60441 would be correct for your car. This cab was built in Feb '54 and is one of those from 60395 to 60549 built in early '54. They have the '53 body with no horn grills. My avatar pic is the cab.

Re: horn bracket
The horn brackets were the 3-leaf type with a stand-off bolt w/spacer. But the ones used 1953 and earlier were really flimsy, and especially with the large HO/FSA "dinner plate" horn attached, often broke.
Photos of a 1952 horn with an intact bracket, and a horn with the stand-off from an unrestored March 1953 car. On this second one, a leaf is broken.
As you can see, each leaf is very thin. The subsequent design for 1954 used 2 layers for each leaf.

Re: horn bracket
I had not considered horns other than the "dinner plate" horn on my cab having different mounts. Yikes!
