Jim
the original poster is looking for a driver level car in the 60k range, hence my question.

I would second what has been said before, you can still find a decent C in that price range and they are the best driving 356s.

For years the 1969-61 T 5 coupes were the least loved 356's. They may still be the lowest cost to buy. I could never understand this, as they are more mechanically developed than the A's and drive better, and they are lighter than a T 6. My personal preference is a T 5 with an SC engine. The Porsche 356 drum brakes are excellent, with any sort of nominal use, they are more than adequate.

Erik, I agree completely. And, they still have the A hood which is a lot prettier than the T - 6 square nose. Also the small rear window. I have had most models, and I also agree the later drum brakes are wonderful if set up properly. One must radius the shoes to the drums, and they are great even for high speed touring. Add a sunroof, and you have the perfect driver.

PS. I am in the market for a T-5 to convert the RHD for a dear friend in Australia. Please give me a yell if you see one for sale.

As you can see Scott we are a bunch of old farts who "wander" around the topic.

Scott, I know red is not your color but you are welcome to take a closer look at my red C coupe. There is the German Car Autofair at the new Porsche dealership (!!) in Maplewood on May 6th and the Intermarque Show in Osseo on May 12th http://intermarque.org/wp-content/uploa ... final_.pdf. I hope to be at both shows with 'Ruby' and a For Sale sign in the window.

Scott may decide to save more money before looking for his 1st after seeing your car Mark. No way after looking at yours he will buy the Champagne one I found him.

I would only not buy an early 60 with single mount transmission. Other than that any 60-65 would make a good driver.

Doug, Could you please explain the aversion to the early B single mount trans? Over the years I've asked several really knowledgeable 356ers and never gotten a convincing objection, except that replacement mounts can sometimes be difficult to source. I've put lots of miles on both style mounts and don't really feel a difference. Maybe I've just got a numb butt...

Yes, Vic was one of those "really knowledgeable 356ers" I asked. I guess we've just been lucky because Lucretia's mount has never been troublesome nor noticeably noisy. Thanks Doug.
