the hawaiian porsche build thread
My dad was in the navy in hawaii in the late 60's where he purchased several 356's. the one that I have from him is a 1957 356 speedster T1. I think he paid like $500 for it. After the service the car was shipped from hawaii to florida. time frame about 1969. I was born in 1970. I remember the car in our garage and every time we moved the porsche would come with us. I never remember seeing it driveable, always towed. fast forward to present day and I am restoring the car. I'll start with a few pics some of which are a few years old, But if you follow along we'll get there.

Keep the pictures coming. Cool car and great family history story. You'll cut quite a figure tooling around in the finished product!

Cool story and cool car. Could be an epic restoration thread, especially if you pepper it with "back-in-the-day" photos.

Cory, just saw your post. I have a picture somewhere of a white , very early speedster with Diamond Head in the background. Car was owned by Joe Dizon. Don't have vin, but if your car is white I have to think there is a good chance that it may be Joe's old speedster.

Re: the hawaiian porsche build thread
Hi Cory,
I would love to offer my services. I would gladly travel to Hawaii to research the early years of your car's history as long as you cover all my travel expenses. I would like to start on Maui for about 30 days and then I could check the rest of the islands. I know, it's very generous of me, but I am always willing to help.
What is the color, engine type, and vin of your car...mine is 83405? Trust me when I say that you will love driving the car when it is finished. There are trying times ahead but it will be worth the effort.

as per the coa the vin is 83052. My dad had a corvair engine in it. Original engine number is 64696. Maybe it's still on the island somewhere? cliff thanx for the generous offer! original color was red with black interior. The car has teardrops but should have beehives. Rear wheel wells were cut to fit wider rims. As per the coa the car was delivered with coup seats. after turkey day I'll get some more pics up.

A big "thumbs up!", Cory! It'll be great to see your progress. Like Cliff, I'll offer my services to check out Hawaii for the engine. The last time I was on Kauai, I tried hunting down a barn find 356 off the beaten path but came up empty.

If there was a covair engine it, be sure to check the trans for a flipped ring gear. They rotated the opposite way. I bought a speedster in back 66 that had one in it. I yanked it and put a Porsche engine back in it. Fired it up put it in reverse and drove into the fence in the front of the carport. I had a 4 speed reverse and one forward.

Re: the hawaiian porsche build thread
couple of pics that I found. these are in hawaii late 1960's. One is in front of our house in ewa beach. and the other is at a polo match. It's hard to tell but the one picture looks like me, my sister, and my mom in the car. To the right could be my crib (i was an infant). notice the cut rear fenders which I had to repair later. I still have the nerf bars too.
