Re: Miss April gets new paint

#16 Post by Paul Hatfield »

Well, this can't be good...
With the car now gone I get to focus my time on the parts I have removed- which includes the gas tank.
First order of business was to look inside the fuel selector valve, and it was full of junk.
Photo shown below.
With that news, I removed the top sender from the gas tank for a look inside. Photo shows the same junk.
I attempted to scrape it with a long screwdriver, and it easily scrapped off.

My bet is that the tank had been removed and coated with a sealer. Then along comes ethanol.

I think I am in for a good tank cleaning.

I will post more on this (as it develops) on the blog on my website.

A few years ago there seemed to be a price war on T6 tanks and you could but a new one for $300. Alas I didn't pick one up when they were on sale. While I am happy with the job done by gas tank renu on mine I think a new one might have been a better choice.

Haven't touched the gas tank yet, but I'm working on cleaning up the engine while it is out of the car. Not done yet, but it is much better than when I started.

Couple of more photos on my website blog.

Miss June might be fully in primer late this week or early next week.
I've been working on cleaning up the engine, but decided to do something different and turned my focus to restoring the original horns. To my knowledge no one sells the correct horn tags for 356 C- they are NOT the same as earlier ones. I restored the horn tags on Miss June, so decided to tackle these on Miss April.

Photo shows the result. More info on my website "Blog". http://www.enginesinback.com/blog

Full body of the car is now in primer! Still plenty of work to go with blocking etc., but feels like a milestone.

Small dents in the bumpers are now straightened and bumpers in primer. Body man made quick work of repairing the battery box.

Now on to the dash......

Delivered the paint to the shop today. Might be the last time I see the car in primer! Scheduled to begin shooting Irish Green this weekend. More info on my website blog.
ps- costs are sure easy to add up. Paint supplies alone were over $1k. Guess I better sell some more goodies. Placing an ad here this afternoon for NOS seat belts.

At long last--- COLOR!

Shot the removable pieces last week. Hood, decklid, bumpers, etc.
I am VERY pleased with the color match to the original paint. Irish Green paint changes quite a bit depending on the amount and type of light. Photos shown here (and on my blog) were all taken in florescent light with my cell phone, but I think fairly represent what it looks like in person.
Painter planning on spraying the chassis later this week!!
More on my blog.

Paul, which tag came off the left horn? (the driver's side) The 6/15 or the 6/16?
