I recently acquired a 55 speedster and in the process of renewing the brakes. Car is equipped with 41/2 x 15 ridge wheels. When removing the rears I had to let the air out of the tires to get them to clear whe wheel arches. Is there something I need to look for that is unique to a PreA 356 regarding swing axles etc? Tires are 165 x15 Michelin XAS.
Thanks, I’m new to the Pre A.

Re: Wheel and tire clearance, rear
Pre-A with 15 inch wheels and 165 tires typically require deflating tires to remove or install rear wheels. Hopefully you have an original size 5.00-16 wheel/tire as a spare so you can install inflated if you have a flat tire on the rear.

Alan, thanks for the heads up. No 16s, the spare is also a Rudge wheel. Even with the air out of the tire I had interference between the drum and the fender.

Even with 16s it is a pita. I just installed 5.50x16 on original 3.25 x 16 wheels and it was all but impossible to get them on while inflated. Sucks even more when you have fresh white walls.

Re: Wheel and tire clearance, rear
I'll start looking for a set of 16s. I'd like to experience the Speedster as it was conceived. I felt the same about my first Carrera 2 until I went for a 360 at a fairly high rate of speed. Ended up with 6 in fuchs and 195 60 15 P6 Pirelli tires on her.
Hope everyone had a great holiday and wishing all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year,
